Kanye West Unreleased Video Game: Only One - “Anything I drop, people lining up”
/The College Dropout - Kanye West
While Kanye West is a polarizing figure to some — he’s an influential figure to many others. He not only shaped the sound of Hip-Hop in the mid-2000s but also changed the fashion industry with his billion dollar brand, Yeezy. Kanye began his career in Hip-Hop as a producer in the 90s. He notably contributed four soulful tracks to Jay-Z’s The Blueprint in 2001, one of Jay’s most critically acclaimed albums.
What Happened to Kanye’s Video Game?
Kanye sought the help of Encyclopedia Pictura — a film and animation studio based in Los Angeles, known for their handcrafted visual style. EP was founded in 2004 by directors, Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch, both with backgrounds in film and video production. The studio has done short films, commercials and most notably music videos for Grizzly Bear and Bjork.
Only One was envisioned as an endless runner mobile game similar to Temple Run and Super Mario Run. The idea is to guide Kanye’s mother to the gates of heaven while avoiding obstacles. The game is meant as a dedication to her memory. Besides the trailer, no other footage was ever publicly shown, but a prototype was privately demoed at E3 in 2016.
